Idea Vault is a design challenge and a professional competition, organised under the umbrella of Design Summit 2020, which encourages university students and young professional to think about how they imagine banking in the FUTURE.
The topic of the challenge is quite broad, so we made it easy for you, there are 3 categories from which you guys should choose one based on the nature of your idea:
Those are rookie numbers! - Increasing customer engagement and loyalty, improving customer experience
How dare you touch me? - Contact-free zones in the branch, safety first, do we need to say more?
Leave no one behind! -Accessibility and education of analog mindsets
Let’s say you want to buy a house. If you are not a son of some sheikh from the Middle-East, you will probably need a loan to do so. We all know the usual scenario: go to a bank, stand in a queue, listen to your options from someone behind a desk.
But as digitalisation, automation and the nature of personal contact are changing nowadays, who knows how it will look like in the future? Will we get financial advice from superintelligent, risk-calculating and wise robots? Will branches have any cash stored at all? Will we be able fo finally reach a point, when a pandemic can’t have that huge of an effect to our economy?
Retail banks previously played a massive role in finance and in daily life, with customers going to bank branches to handle everyday finances, budgeting, and banking services. Today, many bank branches are made all-but-obsolete through digital apps and online service portals, giving customers faster and more convenient ways to access their banking. At the same time, the bank as we know it is far from dead, despite the decreased demand for face-to-face interaction.
Our branches need to change and we need to create an open forum to discuss and define these innovations.
It will be you and/or your children who will grow into a new way of banking.
We want you to dream and envision aspects of how should we make it work. How do you think services should change? How should the interior look like? How should a service, which is rooted in interpersonal conversations, adapt to digitalisation and automation? How can banking be inclusive and accessible for everyone?

Well, basically there are two. You really just need to choose between two general approaches, after that you are free to run wild and to think as you please. It really just boils down to what kind of a person you are. Here’s a question, that will help in choosing the right way for you:
What comes into your mind when you think about change?
If you are blessed with a visual mind and you are just instinctively captivated by design, interior, shapes and the overall harmony of how a space is occupied, then feel free to show us your vision. Design the physical environment - or a chosen element - of a branch in the future of banking. But keep in mind that it also has to serve a specific function as well, which addresses real needs of the time before us.. Sure, that marble archway shooting lasers are pretty cool, but do we really need it?
We wouldn’t be here without all those pragmatic inventors and brave pioneers, who make and keep the wheels turning. Shout out to all genius process geeks! If your head is constantly full of groundbreaking ideas, and can’t rest until you find out if it would work in practice, feel free to share your idea with us. Reform processes or come up with something that no one else has ever thought before. Make up a new way of doing things. You always have the customers best interests in mind, but don’t underestimate the value of how do you wrap it. Make sure you spend some time with aesthetics as well.
